Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report, Cold Weather Sailfish and Dolphin

Cold Weather Sailfish and Dolphin

Cold Weather Sailfish and Dolphin

The fishing has been great over the past few weeks and will only get better with this latest cold front. With every front that passes the sailfish have been passing through off Fort Lauderdale and we have been seeing up to 12 shots in a 3/4 day. When the cold weather blows the sailfish migrate within a mile or two of the Fort Lauderdale coast and you have a shot at double, triple, and quad hookups. We are targeting them kite fishing and slow trolling though the kite fishing is tops when the winds are up. Up off stuart they are still catching a ton of fish so this fishing will continue with each cold front.

During the slower times there are a good amount of dolphin and kingfish on the reef to keep things interesting. The dolphin have been on the smaller side from 5-10lbs and have been coming through in smaller schools and generally moving fast. We have been able to hook up a fish or two and then the school has moved on but they will hang around longer the farther from the full moon as we get. The kingfish on the other hand have been getting bigger as it gets colder. We have been catching a good amount of fish from 10-20lbs and even a few fish in the 30+lbs range. These fish have been around bait and have been caught all the way in to the beaches off Fort Lauderdale.

We have not ventured offshore in the past few weeks because the fishing has been good inshore. I did hear of a few boats swordfishing when the seas have gone down with mixed results. Every year around this time I have always caught bigger swordfish in the 150+lb range, so it would be a very good time to try if you are looking for a swordfish charter.

A few boats that have been going accross to the Bahamas are doing well high speed trolling for wahoo and I have heard of decent grouper catches. If you are looking for a great relaxing trip with great fishing gives me a call and I can put together a ecconomical package for you.
