Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report, Early Sailfish Bite Fort Lauderdale

Early Sailfish Bite Fort Lauderdale

The past 2 weeks we have had some fantastic ft. lauderdale fishing charters. Sailfish have started to come through in decent numbers which is pretty early in the season but a good for fishing. We have been averaging 3 sails per half day and even had a double digit day a little over a week ago. Most of the sailfish have been in the shallower waters chasing ballyhoo, a few have been deeper on other baitfish. We have had best bet slow trolling live ballyhoo on the calm days and kite fishing with smaller baits on the windy days. As is normal in the early part of the season a lot of the sailfish are small in the 5-20lb. range which is really exciting on light tackle.
Mixed in with the sailfish have been dolphin. Good size fish from 5-20lbs. have been running on the current edges and chasing ballyhoo in the shallows. We caught 10 dolphin this week in 3 charters.
Wahoo fishing was decent on the last full moon, we only caught one fish but overall their were a bunch caught on the full moon. Kingfish has been ok with fish up to 30lbs being caught, most of the fish have been schoolie sized though.
On the bottom snapper fishing has slowed in the day and night but still has been decent. Muttons are still on the wrecks and hard bottom areas and the yellowtails are still schooling up and biting well at night.
Offshore there are a good numbers of dolphin and baby blackfin tunas to catch. We have been catching them from 3-15miles offshore of Fort Lauderdale both under debris and birds.
On the beach there are still a good amount of mullet. We have been catching a good amount of tarpon, sharks and jacks off the schools. If the weather is right it is a great way to end your offshore charter chasing big fish on the beach.
