South Florida fishing is heating up with each cold front that passes. When the wind is switching to the north the Sailfish and Dolphin are piling through in great numbers. The front that came through on Saturday fired up the dolphin and sailfish to our north off Palm Beach. It is only a 30 minute run to the north but well worth the time spent traveling to find the fish. We have no problem crediting you the time travelling for your charter. On sunday we caught 12 dolphin to 30lbs and had 11 shots at sailfish. Fishing doesn't get much better than this. If you don't want to make a long run we have been averaging 4-6 shots at sailfish fishing right out front of Fort Lauderdale. The key to finding the best fishing is finding the current and it just so happens its running closest to the coast from Lake Worth Pier north through Palm Beach. I have heard of boats out of Palm Beach Inlet having up to 20 shots in a day so right now through February is the best time of the year to have a shot at catching multiple sailfish. We have been having best shots while kite fishing with herring.
Also on the reef kingfish have been running with most of the fish in the 10-15lb range. We did catch one fish close to 30lbs this week. They have been biting live bait best from Ft. Lauderdale to north of Boca Raton.
In the 2-400ft depth range we have been running into the schools of winter blackfins. They are a lot smaller than our spring and summer blackfins but are great fun on light tackle, and react well to trolling and casting jigs at them. Mixed in with the blackfins are similar sized skipjack tunas.
Offshore the swordfishing has been hit or miss but will pick up coming up on the next full moon. Best area for us has been from Fort Lauderdale to Haulover Inlet.
