Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report, Snappers Off Fort Lauderdale

Snappers Off Fort Lauderdale

With the summer here in Florida it means midday heat and occasional afternoon storms. We have been able to avoid storms by fishing early and late and have not had to cancel any fort lauderdale fishing charters in the past few weeks.
The bottom bite has been on fire over the past few weeks. Mangrove, yellowtail, and mutton snapper have all been biting well. The snappers have been all over the reef line from 30-200ft of water, the trick to consistent catching has been finding them in good concentrations for a limit which has been a very good possibility over the past month. If you are looking for a way to avoid the heat they have been biting even better at night. It is very relaxing to be anchored up off the coast of florida pulling fish out of their rocky lairs.
Kingfish have been in the same places as the snappers and fishing have been averaging 10-20lbs. We have targeted them specifically with live bait as well as while bottom fishing. Also while kingfishing the bonitas are mixed in and put up a great fight. We have also been seeing a sailfish every other trip.
Just offshore of the ft. lauderdale reef we are seeing a good amount of small blackfin tunas from 1-10lbs. This is the time of year where they can become thick and a blast to catch on light tackle.
Offshore the swordfishing remains consistent both day and night. The daytime fishing slowed in the last week with the increased wind but that probably was because of less effort. Nighttime has had some consistency for once and has been a welcome addition to the daytime heat. Dolphin have remained well offshore 30+miles last time I looked. They should be closer this week with the east wind the past week.
