Swordfishing off Fort Lauderdale

The past month has really been good for Fort Lauderdale swordfish. Both day and night fishing has been producing multiple fish. This past saturday we went 3 for 8 which is'nt a great catch percentage but pretty much on par for a swordfish bite. Two of the fish were lost under the boat and were in the 200+ lb. range. The fish we caught went 55, 105, 190lbs. This is a great time to target swordfish as long as the tropical storms keep the fishing area not too rough. Nighttime fishing has also been good, with fish in the same size range being caught, but a higher percentage of fish being on the smaller size.
On the reef we have been snapper fishing a lot. Muttons, yellowtails, mangroves and other species have been biting well. We have been catching them on live ballyhoo and mullet which have been all over the ft. lauderdale reef. While on the anchor bottom fishing we have been also catching a good amount of cero mackeral as well as kings on a flatlined live bait.
Dolpin have been on the reef eating the ballyhoo as well as sailfish. It should be only another couple of week or good coldfronts before we should see some good numbers of sailfish push through.
Inshore the mullet are still on the beaches and following them are snook, tarpon, mackerals, bluefish, jacks, sharks and other fish. We have been targeting them at the end of half days to add another species to our day and have been feeding well on a dead mullet fished in the school.
Give me a call if you would like to go fishing.
