Fort Lauderdale Swordfishing Charters

Swordfishing trips in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale is one of the premier areas to catch swordfish. While they aren't generally encountered as close to shore as some of Ft. Lauderdale's other pelagic sportfish, swordfish can be caught as close to shore as anywhere in the world. Formerly considered "the gladiator of the night," swordfish can now be effectively targeted during the daytime with great results.

Your Ft. Lauderdale Swordfishing charter will be fishing the same areas regardless of daytime or night time fishing. Night time swordfishing provides you with a great way to beat the Ft Lauderdale heat. Typically a nighttime swordfish charter will leave the dock an hour before sundown and return around 12-2am; depending on moon set and rise. Once in the Fort Lauderdale swordfishing grounds, we deploy a five line spread of squid and live bait. Squid typically provide the best hook up ratio while live bait will provide the most bites. Offering both at the same time provides the best action and the best result. The average size swordfish caught off of Ft. Lauderdale at night is in the 50-100lb. range with bigger fish always a possibility.

Drifting at night it is a great time to enjoy a dinner and drink, listen to the game on the radio, watch the baits, and see more stars then you ever knew existed. In the lights of the boat, you may encounter dolphin, squid, sailfish, swordfish, sharks and other species attracted to the boat. Even if your spouse or kids may not be into fishing, consider bringing them along to enjoy the natural beauty of the waters off of Fort Lauderdale.

Daytime swordfishing off Fort Lauderdale is a whole different ballgame. Anglers have found that swordfish are actively feeding during the day, not on the surface like at night, but primarily on the bottom from 1000-2000ft. of water. Though it requires more cranking out of line, you'll have a much better chance of getting connected to a true giant swordfish with fish coming regularly in the 100-500lb. range. Fort Lauderdale swordfishing charters with the Conched Out provide top of the line rods, reels and tackle to give you the best chance of catching a prized swordfish.
